Pirates Weekend in Plymouth

Plymouth Pirates Weekend | Family Friendly Places | Plymouth Pirate Weekend 2025

Ohhh arrr! The pirates are coming to Plymouth!

Get ready for a swashbuckling fun day enjoying the best of the high seas in May 2025

This award-winning family event attracts thousands of visitors and locals eager to join in the free festivities. The Plymouth Pirate Weekend has been successfully running since 2011. Enjoy an adventure-filled day out for the whole family as you wander the Barbican, Sutton Harbour, Plymouth Hoe and Royal William Yard.

There’s plenty of entertainment, too, with puppeteers, stilt walkers, storytellers, displays and a programme of shanty bands to enjoy. Children will love swashbuckling school, pirate coin making, face painting, puppet shows and musket firing. For the grown-ups, a range of pirate-themed ales will also be available across the Barbican. As well as street food vendors.

Plymouth Pirate Ships

The Galeón Andalucía, an impressive full-size replica of a 17th-century Spanish galleon, will be alongside the Barbican Landing Stage. It is a floating museum and will be open each day for visitors to explore. You can book to visit in advance or on the day (booking in advance or on the day available).

Also, see Galeón Andalucía, an original example of a “pailebote” (Spanish for pilot’s boat), which was dedicated to the export of fruit, salt and general cargo, both in Mediterranean ports and anchorages and on the North and West coasts of Africa. You can visit for free, but water taxi charges will apply.

Treasure Trail

Can you help Cap’n Jack track down his shipmates and get them back on board so they can set sail on their next adventure? Pick up your free trail map from the Tourist Information Centre over the weekend. Complete the trail and return the answers to claim a prize.

There's also the Mermaid Sea Quest, led by Melody the Mermaid. Help her find the clues and solve them with storytelling, singing songs, and poems. At the end of each Quest, each child will receive a shell to keep as a prize for completing the Quest, adding some extra magic.

Plymouth Pirate Fun Run

Join the UK’s first pirate fun run in aid of bereavement support charity Jeremiah’s Journey. Register to run or walk the 3km route. Dressing as a pirate is highly encouraged!
