At Saltram, you’ll find a house full of treasures and a secret garden to lose yourself in. Overlooking the River Plym, there is lots of green space to enjoy. You can stroll along the riverside and through the woodland. In the garden, you can discover the orangery - the perfect place for a picnic.
The house has an excellent collection of furniture, fine art and china. The upstairs bedrooms also feature some beautifully preserved Chinese wallpaper depicting scenes from everyday life in China. There are so many places to visit around Plymouth, including a host of National Trust properties, estates, and gardens.

This trail is a fantastic activity for the whole family. You will be walking around Plymouth, visiting many of the historical sights on the way! Let the kids run wild in West Hoe Park! It is a large children’s play area and has a miniature railway and putting green, crazy golf, trampolines, a merry-go-round and a bouncy castle. Of course, nearby, you can walk along Plymouth Hoe with glorious views of the Plymouth Sound or even go for a swim at Tinside Lido.

Let your kids explore nature in the woodland, beach, park and pond at Mount Edgcumbe. There is also a historic house and gardens to discover, as well as boat trips and an interactive sawmill. Get there via the Cremyll Ferry departs from Admirals Head at Stonehouse in Plymouth every 30 minutes, taking only 8 minutes. Or, with Plymouth Boat Trips from The Barbican.

You can enjoy free use of the Mount Wise Swimming Pool! It has a cool 25-foot main pool, plus a small paddling pool ideal for smaller children and a separate pool for lots of fun, splashing which hosts fountains, stepping stones, a whirlpool and a bubble pool.

If you fancy an educational day out, why not visit Crownhill Fort? It is the best-preserved of Lord Palmerston’s Ring of Fire, which surrounded Plymouth during Victorian times, acting as a protective barrier for the Royal Dockyard at Devonport from fierce French attack!
