At the Theatre Royal, you can watch shows throughout the year including dramas, comedies, musicals and family-friendly performances. The Theatre Royal Plymouth is the largest theatre in the south west. It also specialises in the production of new plays and has built a national reputation for the quality of its innovative work.
The Lyric, the main auditorium, sits 1315 people. Here you can watch major touring drama, live musical productions, opera and dance. The Drum has a smaller capacity of 200 people and shows new plays.
There's been a Royal Theatre in Plymouth since 1758. On a different site, the current Theatre Royal was built in 1979 and was opened on 5 May 1982 by Princess Margaret. A £7 million Regeneration Project was completed in September 2013 with a renovated front-of-house area and community workship space called The Lab.
