Why You Can't Miss Unicornfest 2023
Calling all adventure enthusiasts and unicorn lovers! Bristol is hosting the most magical event of the year: Unicornfest 2023. This summer, you can explore Bristol and discover the decorated mythical creatures to celebrate Bristol's 650th anniversary.
The unicorn has been significant to Bristol since they first appeared on the city seal in 1569. It can be seen on the top of County Hall, on the SS Great Britain and many other locations in the city. Apparently, there is a unicorn hiding inside the 12th Century Bristol Cathedral, among the exquisite carvings.
So, what is Unicornfest? The arts trail is bringing 60 life-sized unicorn sculptures to the streets of Bristol and the surrounding areas this summer. A local artist has designed each painted unicorn as part of Bristol 360th Anniversary.
Some locations include the unicorn UWEcorn at Bristol Aquarium, Silmycorn at We The Curious, Popcorn and Guardian of the Forest at Clifton Suspension Bridge and Carni near Gloucester Road. There's also Bristol Kiss at Ashton Court Estate, Goldie Horn at Puxton Park, The Grand Pier and West Country Water Park.
As well as the unicorn statues, there are 40 smaller foals that schools, colleges, nurseries and community groups have decorated. Four of these are at Cabot Circus, opposite Future Inn Bristol - a great place to start finding them all.
You do not need to find all of the unicorns in one day. The art trail is running until early September.
The unicorns are dotted across Bristol and the South West in 55 locations: Bristol Unicorn Trail Map. You can also download the app on Android, Apple and IOS devices. It is free.
From 22-24 September, all of the unicorns will be rounded up to say their final farewells. You do need tickets for this event, held at Propyard. Then, all will be auctioned off in October to raise money for Leukaemia Care.
