The history of the Sunday Roast can be traced back over 500 years. Dating as far back as the 15th Century, it is believed to have its origins in the customs of the royal guard, who would eat beef every Sunday after church. This soon became a countrywide affair, as it turned into a social activity that involved families gather for the biggest meal of the week. Religious traditions included not eating meat on Fridays and fasting before church on Sunday made it something for everyone to look forward to; a hearty meal with all the trimmings.
