English Tourism Week 2023
The annual celebration, English Tourism Week 2023, is back. What is the week for? It highlights the importance of tourism in the UK. Celebrate between Friday 17 March and Sunday 26 March 2023.
English Tourism Week is an annual campaign led by VisitEngland. The celebration has been designed to showcase the quality, range and value of English hotels, restaurants, visitor attractions and local activities.
It has been well-documented that the hospitality industry has changed since the pandemic, particularly in staffing and recruitment. According to recent surveys, one in nine hospitality jobs still need to be filled despite recent improvements in recruitment. Alongside ever-increasing costs for utilities, food and suppliers, there has been ongoing pressure on services. This is all alongside maintaining customer service levels and expectations.
Tourism and the hospitality industry is a massive contributor to the economy. English tourism makes up 80% of the UK’s visitor economy. In 2019 it generated over £100 billion and supported 2.6 million jobs. The industry is a significant employer of school leavers and young people and an incubator for entrepreneurs. English Tourism Week is our opportunity to show you what the country offers.
Many people think tourism is going on holiday or travelling for a staycation away from home, meaning we often overlook what is on our doorstep. When did you last visit a popular attraction nearby? Use this week to plan your next adventure.
Local tourism is just as important. When did you last eat out or visit your local tourist information centre? Have you attended any business events? The tourism industry also includes conferences, events and weddings.
Show your support for English Tourism Week on social media. Use the hashtag #EnglishTourismWeek23, and tag @VisitEnglandBiz
Enjoy participating in the annual celebration of the people, places, and experiences that help make England great.
