Founded in Cardiff Bay, Techniquest is the UK’s longest-established science discovery centre.
Displaying science in a way that will engage and teach people of all ages, Techniquest offers over 100 exhibits to explore. It was founded in 1986 by Professor John Beetlestone and his colleagues from Cardiff University.
Its first site was the gas showroom opposite Cardiff Castle. In 1988, it moved to a prefabricated industrial building in Cardiff Bay, where it launched its education programmes for schools. In 1995, it moved to its current site on Stuart Street, the UK’s first purpose-built science centre in Cardiff Bay.
In addition to the exhibits, the site features a planetarium, where you can take a journey through the cosmos in a Star Tours show. You can also dock virtual spacecrafts, experience the force of a hurricane, and enjoy the Water Area — at Techniquest, the possibilities are endless.
