Cosmeston Lakes and Country Park

Scenic country parks across South Wales

Cosmeston Lakes Country Park and Medieval Village is a 100-hectare country park in Penarth. It has two large lakes, five smaller ponds, a brook, reedbeds, a medieval village, a vegetable and herb garden and a play park. The park is also a Local Nature Reserve and a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), home to rare plants and animals. Visitors can enjoy walking around the lakes, taking photographs of wildlife, and visiting the medieval village.

Cosmeston Lakes Country Park is open all year round. There are over 100 hectares of land and water, with some areas designated S.S.S.I (Site of Special Scientific Interest). It is a haven for paradise, and with flat, even paths it is accessible to everyone. Alongside a children's playground, you will find picnic benches and a cafe for refreshments. There are also BBQ areas.

These very well-maintained grounds include walks along wide paths around the two lakes, with a bridge over the centre for a shorter walk. Several meandering walks branch off through woodlands or fields into the surrounding areas. It takes about 40-60 minutes to walk around the lake.

Cosmeston Medieval Village

During the development of the country park in 1978, excavations uncovered the remains of a community over 600 years old. An archaeological project to restore the village began. Today, the Medieval Village is set in the year 1350. It was a fascinating time in history as the village had been given a new boost of life by the de Caversham family.

Opening times are 10.00am to 5.00pm from April to September and 10.00am to 4.00pm October to March (last entry at 3.00pm).
